The Westlake Women’s Club Education Chair- Petra Montante and Club member Anu Goyal led the Dr. Seuss-Read Across America project following the General Federation of Women’s Clubs initiative to donate Dr. Seuss books directly to local communities.

They organized the donation of more than 50 Dr. Seuss books by our club members and on Tuesday, March 3, 2020, they visited the Conejo Elementary School in Thousand Oaks to celebrate the Read Across America Month with local students.

In the presence of the school librarian and classroom teachers, selected Dr. Seuss books were read by them to attentive students in grades K-3, and concluded this day with the donation of 50+ books to the school’s library. Our two Westlake Women’s Club members also distributed pencils, bookmarks, writing pads, stickers and word/math cards to enhance the student’s experience.

Both Anu Goyal (Cat in the Hat) and Petra Montante (Mother Goose) were delighted by the enthusiastic response of the K-3 students - their questions and comments showed how much they enjoyed the event! “There is nothing like seeing the joy on children’s faces as they experience the excitement of the written word!” said Petra Montante.
